Nuneaton Town return to league action with a short bank holiday Monday trip west to Sutton Coldfield Town FC with a 3 o’clock kick off.

Both sides are on good runs going into the game, with Sutton Coldfield recovering from 2 losses at the start of the season to win their last 3 league games plus Saturday’s FA Trophy game against Worcester Raiders. Both sides have scored in 5 out of their 6 games so far this season, so it’s expected to be another interesting contest. Their good run has left them in 3rd place in the table going into Monday’s game.

Former Nuneaton players now playing for the home side include goalkeeper James Wren, and full back Ryan Edmunds. 

Nuneaton go into the game off the back of two thrilling matches in the last week, with Caine Elliott scoring a last minute winner against Coleshill to secure 3 points in their last league game, and James Harrison equalised in the last minute of normal time at Lincoln United on Saturday in the FA Trophy, after the home side had lead since the 4th minute, and it proved crucial as Finn Osborn saved 2 penalties to send Nuneaton through to the next round with the draw to come on Tuesday.

About our opponents:

One of the oldest clubs in the area formed in 1879, they have played at Coles Lane since the 1930s. A large fire in the 1950s damaged much of the ground, and they struggled financially for several years before rising up the leagues by joining the West Midlands (Regional) League in 1979, the Southern League in 1982, winning division 1 at the first attempt, before being relegated the following season. They remained there until 2010, and were then transferred to the Northern Premier League Division 1 South due to geographical boundary changes. They won their first Birmingham Senior Cup in 2011, beating ourselves in the final 1-0, and installed a 3G pitch that summer at Coles Lane. They were promoted to the Premier Division in 2015, but relegated from it again in 2018, where they have remained since.

Directions from Nuneaton town centre:

Head south on the A444 towards Coventry/M6, and join the M6 at J3 towards Birmingham. Exit at J5, and turn right at the roundabout onto the A452 Newport Road. Go straight on at the next 2 roundabouts, then turn right at the third onto the B4148 Eachelhurst Road. After passing The Fox pub turn left onto Wylde Green Road, and immediately after crossing over a railway bridge turn right onto East View Road. Continue onto Coles Lane then the entrance is on the right next to the Premier shop.

Public transport:

Take the 12:54 train to Crewe, arriving at Lichfield Trent Valley at 13:14, then the 13:38 to Bromsgrove arriving at Sutton Coldfield at 13:59. Then walk past the Gracechurch Shopping Centre along Brassington Avenue, then down Holland Street, right onto Holland Road, and left onto Coles Lane to the ground.

Returning, leave by 17:35 to take the Lichfield Trent Valley train at 17:57, arriving at 18:19, and then the London Euston train at 18:49, arriving at Nuneaton at 19:10.
