Nuneaton Town return to The Oval for their third preseason game, their second at home, as they welcome AFC Telford United.

Former Nuneaton Town manager Kevin Wilkin and former player Mark Noon bring the Bucks, currently of the National League North, over to The Oval for what will be the toughest test of preseason for the newly promoted Town.

Town achieved their second successive comeback win on Tuesday night, as following an impressive victory over Southern League Premier Division Central side Stratford Town, they beat local rivals Hinckley with Caine Elliott's free kick, Declan Somel's smart effort, and Aaron Roberts' late chip cancelling out Hinckley's early two goal lead.

Nuneaton and Telford last met in the 2018/19 National League North season over the Boxing Day and New Year fixtures, where Telford completed 3-1 and 2-1 victories respectively as the Boro would finish bottom of the table come the end of the season. Last season the Bucks finished 11th in the National League North, and will be looking to prepare for another solid campaign.

Come and see if Nuneaton can upset the odds to make it 3 wins out of 3.

Our opponents:

Formed in 2004 after the collapse of Telford United, AFC joined the Northern Premier League Division 1, the same division Nuneaton Town are now in, earning promotion through the play offs in their first season. After a solid 10th place finish, another play off promotion the following season saw them promoted to the Conference North in 2007. In the 2010-11 season they won the play offs again, beating Nuneaton Town in the semi final, followed by Guiseley in the final, earning promotion to the Conference Premier.

They yo-yoed between the Premier and North divisions over the next decade before being relegated to the Southern League Premier Central in 2022-23, before returning to Step 2 for the start of the 2025-26 season.

AFC Telford United play at the New Bucks Head. A fun fact is Steven Gerrard once featured for Liverpool reserves there away at Wolves reserves, which attracted one of the ground's largest crowds.

They have been managed by Kevin Wilkin since 2022, who manages his fourth club after Nuneaton Borough/Town, Wrexham and Brackley Town. Former team mate Gavin Cowan manages Telford's local rivals Shrewsbury Town.
