About our opponents:

The ‘Mikes’ were formed in 1883 as a church team for the nearby St Michael’s church, and played friendlies against other church teams until joining league football in 1912. Boldmere reached the semi finals of the FA Amateur Cup in 1947-48 losing to Barnet at Highbury in front of 26,000. They hosted the Indian Olympic team ahead of the London Olympics in 1948, losing 1-0. The club have spent the years since in Birmingham, West Midlands, and Midland leagues. In 2021-22 they finished runners up in the Midland League Premier, and were promoted to the NPL Division 1 South for 2022-23 where they have remained since.

Church Road, where the club have played since the beginning, has undergone modernisation in recent years, with an all weather pitch, and a community centre on the premises, and now hosts a successful women’s and youth team along with the men’s first team. The ground is also home to Boldmere Rangers, who Nuneaton visited in the Midland League Division 1 when they were named Smethwick Rangers.

Boldmere reached the FA Vase 3rd round on 7 occasions, but have yet to reach the first round of the FA Trophy since promotion, with their best efforts a 3rd qualifying round run in 2023-24. They have never progressed past the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round.

Fun facts:

TV Presenter Emma Willis, the wife of Busted member Matt Willis, lived in Boldmere during her childhood and attended the local school. Horror film actress Hazel Court is also another famous former Boldmere resident.

Boldmere’s name comes from bald and moor due to its surrounding tree-less fields, and was a small settlement until Victorian expansion in the Victorian era and railway expansion swallowed it up into the Sutton Coldfield area. St Michael’s church was built in this period, in 1857, and rebuilt following a fire in 1964.
