Nuneaton start off a tough September with their toughest of the lot so far, as they take on Step 3 high flyers Bromsgrove Sporting of the Southern League Premier Central.

Aaron Roberts and Luke Softley make quick returns to their old club after leaving Sporting in the summer, and with several of the Hednesford side that won the division last season, Bromsgrove are a tough prospect, but Nuneaton hope to give a good account of themselves and potentially cause an upset.

Nuneaton have overcome Westfields 5-2 and Rugby Borough 1-0 to get here, while Bromsgrove enter at this stage.

Nuneaton and Bromsgrove meet for the first time since Borough were locked out of Liberty Way on the day of their last meeting in October 2023, with Nuneaton winning the match at the home of Leicester Road FC.

About our opponents:

Bromsgrove Sporting were a fan-owned club built with the intention of buying the cash strapped Bromsgrove Rovers in 2009, but when Rovers went under, Sporting became the club themselves and took over the now vacant Victoria Ground, playing their first match in 2010-11 in the Midland Football Combination Division 2 (Step 8). Their away colours are a nod to the green of Rovers. After a few high finishes Sporting were promoted to the Midland Combination Premier, and after several near misses, were finally promoted to the Midland League Premier with an unbeaten season in 2016-17 whilst also reaching the FA Vase semi finals losing out to Cleethorpes Town. They made up for lost time by winning a second league title in succession to be promoted to the Southern League Division 1 Central for 2018-19. They made it 3 in a row via the play offs beating Corby Town in the final to be part of the Southern League Premier Central for 2019-20. After the Covid pandemic Sporting found themselves languishing in the bottom half of the table, but have managed to survive in Step 3. Hednesford Town's move to full time saw a mass exodus of players, many of whom are now at Bromsgrove Sporting, a move which has seen them make a much better start to the league season, and they will be looking to get an FA Cup run going on Saturday.

Directions from Nuneaton town centre:

Take the A444 south to the M6, then head towards Birmingham, then at J4 take the slip road onto the M42 South. Continue on the M42 until J1, then turn left onto the A38 towards Bromsgrove. At the traffic lights turn right into Birmingham Road, and then after a roundabout, the ground is on the right.

Public transport:

Take the 12:09 to Birmingham New Street arriving at 12:38, then the 12:50 to Hereford arriving at Bromsgrove at 13:11. Then take the 52A bus at 13:21 from outside the station to Bromsgrove bus station arriving at 13:28, then walk up Market Street continuing onto Birmingham Road and the ground is on the left.

Returning, take the 52A towards Redditch from Bromsgrove bus station at 17:35, arriving at the train station at 17:41, then the Lichfield Trent Valley train at 18:03 arriving Birmingham New Street at 18:33, then finally the Leicester train at 18:52 arriving in Nuneaton at 19:20
