Nuneaton Town will make a fourth attempt at sealing the United Counties League Premier South title on Easter Monday as they make the short trip down the A444 to face Coventry United in the second local derby of the weekend.
Draws at Godmanchester Rovers, March Town United and Saturday's home defeat to Atherstone Town have delayed Nuneaton's coronation, but they still require just 2 points from their final 2 games to get over the line. A victory over Coventry United, or dropped points for Atherstone seals the deal for Town. A draw would all but be enough given the 22 goal gap in goal difference Atherstone would have to make up in 4 games.
United provide another tough test for Town as their tour of the top 4 in the space of 6 days completes. They sit 3rd in the league with 22 wins, 6 draws and 6 defeats, and were ruled out of the title race by Nuneaton's draw at March, however still have second place to play for as they sealed a play off spot with victory over Newport Pagnell Town on Saturday afternoon. They have won 5 of their last 6, with the damaging defeat at Easington Sports the only blemish in that run.
Nuneaton will welcome back midfielder Charlie Jones after suspension, which means they should have pretty much a full squad to choose from.
Several Coventry United players have former experience for Nuneaton Town or Borough sides, including Cody Mullan, Benji Adomako, Chris Cox and Ben Vallance. Nuneaton Town managers Darren Acton and Russell Dodd managed Coventry United briefly at the end of 2021.
With a rare dip in form for Nuneaton Town in the last few games, however with 2 home victories over their opponents already this season, can they finally get over the line and win the title?
