Nuneaton Town and Coventry United face off on Saturday in a spooky showdown on Halloween at The Oval.

Nuneaton will be hoping its not a horror show as they look to end a run of 3 straight defeats that has seen them slip from 3rd to 7th, and out of title contention for now.

The Red and Greens are familiar opponents for Nuneaton, as they clashed 3 times last season, twice in the United Counties Premier Division South and once in the cup. Nuneaton won both home games and lost the away game in April that ultimately delayed, but didn't prevent, the side's title win. United prevailed in the play offs to join Step 4 for the first time. However just one win from six in October, with that win coming against bottom side St Ives Town, sees them in 16th place coming into Saturday's game.

Who will succeed in this local derby and who will be suffering nightmares on Halloween night?

About our opponents:

Established in 2013 as a protest to Coventry City having to play in Northampton, having taken over Coventry Spartans, Coventry United have gone from strength to strength in that time. Earning 3 straight promotions in their first 3 seasons to reach Step 5, they played at several grounds in that time including the Alan Higgs Centre, and Sphinx Drive, and moved to the Butts Park Arena, home of Coventry Rugby Club, in 2017.

United settled into life in Step 5 and won the play offs last season to join Nuneaton in Step 4, the first time United have ever played at this level. Current Nuneaton Town joint managers Darren Acton and Russell Dodd were briefly managers of Coventry United from November 2021 until the end of the year.
