Nuneaton Town return to league action on Saturday afternoon after a 2 week break for two cup games, and a rare free midweek, in which a much changed side was knocked out of the Birmingham Senior Cup by Dudley Town, and scraped past Step 6 side Dronfield Town in the United Counties League Cup 1st Round on penalties.

On Saturday, Nuneaton face the team they beat in the previous round of that competition 5 weeks ago, Godmanchester Rovers. A screamer from Luke Jones and a composed first time finish by Stuart Hendrie sealed Nuneaton's place in the next round 2-1 despite a late goal from the home side.

The tie was played at the home of Yaxley FC due to ongoing issues with Godmanchester's ground which has meant that this will be their 9th away game in 10 league matches.

Nuneaton Town have watched their 6 point lead evaporate as Aylestone Park put the pressure on with 2 league wins at Yaxley and Daventry United respectively, although Nuneaton's significant goal difference still keeps them top, also with 2 games in hand. Both sides remarkably remain unbeaten nearly a third of the way into the season.

Nuneaton Town have scored 24 of their 31 league goals at home, averaging 4 a game, whilst also having the league's best defence. Only Lutterworth Town have come to The Oval in a league game and prevented a Nuneaton win, drawing 2-2. Godmanchester Rovers sit 17th in the league, albeit with games in hand on everyone else, with 3 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats giving them 11 points, with 3 of those points coming in their only home game so far v Hinckley last weekend. Craig Gillies is their top scorer with 5.

With further points up for grabs on Tuesday as local rivals Hinckley come to town, can Nuneaton Town get more points on the board to put the pressure back on those below?

History:

Goddy were formed in 1911 and played in the Huntingdonshire League for the majority of their early years before joining the Cambridgeshire League. The club moved from their London Road ground to their current one in 2002, and were accepted to the Eastern Counties League, winning Division 1 10 years later. They have remained at Step 5 ever since, being transferred to the United Counties Premier South in 2021. They have won the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup and the Hinchingbrooke Cup twice each.
