Nuneaton Town return to The Oval on Tuesday night as the Gingerbreads roll in to town.

Nuneaton ended a 4 game losing streak on Saturday by snatching a late win at high flying Shepshed Dynamo with goals from Declan Somel and Terry Atem in a 2-1 win moving them up to 15th.

Fellow promoted side Grantham have made a solid start to the season, and sit in 5th with 12 points from 8 games, and secured a point at fellow early play off contenders Sutton Coldfield Town on Saturday with a 3-3 draw.

Nuneaton and Grantham's last meeting ended with the same scoreline in a pulsating United Counties League Cup tie last season that Grantham thought they'd won in stoppage time only for Nuneaton to equalise with virtually the last kick of the game before winning on penalties. Terry Atem was on the Grantham team that night and will possibly be lining up against his former club on Tuesday night.

Nuneaton and Grantham were regular opponents in the 90s and 00s, and Liam Murphy's uncle Gez Murphy was on the scoresheet the last time the two teams met in a league game.

Grantham Town are known as 'The Gingerbreads', and were formed in 1874 as Grantham FC, becoming Grantham Town FC in 1987. They have played at the South Kesteven Stadium since 1991, which has an athletics track around the outside and a large stand on each side, one standing, one seating. Prior to 1991 they played at London Road, and then groundshared with Spalding United for one season before moving to their current home.

Grantham's last league title came in 2011-12 as they won the Northern Premier League Division 1 South, along with the Lincolnshire County Shield. However two relegations since, the second being the 2024-25 season, saw them drop to the United Counties Premier Division North, where they won the play offs last season to return to Step 4 at the first attempt.

One odd thing Nuneaton Town and Grantham Town have in common is that Middlesbrough have visited both in FA Cup 3rd Rounds, Grantham in 1973-74, and Nuneaton in 2005-06.
