After two titles and promotions in two seasons, Nuneaton Town begin their third league campaign since reformation on Tuesday night, as they take their place in the Pitching-In Northern Premier League Division 1 Midlands. Their first opponents are Mickleover FC.

Nuneaton made a flying start to the season as they reached the next round of the FA Cup with a 5-2 win at Westfields, with Eesa Sawyers, Terry Atem and James Armson adding to Bradley Stretton's brace, and will be looking to translate their positive start into league form with 3 league games in 7 days in a busy start to the season.

Mickleover are a side Nuneaton faced only 3 seasons ago as Nuneaton Borough, and after reaching the play offs that season, struggled the following season resulting in relegation. They solidified at Step 4 last season and go into the new campaign looking to regain promotion back to Step 3 just as Nuneaton are, so it is expected to be a close contest. Mickleover also made a good start to the season, winning away at Winsford United in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Our opponents:

Mickleover FC are based in the Mickleover suburb of Derby, and were formed in 1948 as Mickleover Old Boys, and played in the Derby and District League until 1993, where they joined the Central Midlands League and became Mickleover Sports. Further promotions came in 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2009, as they reached the Northern Premier League Division 1 South for the first time. They won it at the first attempt, securing promotion to Step 3 in 2010, also winning the league cup against Halifax Town, but were relegated back to Step 4 in 2012. Mickleover returned to the Premier Division in 2014, and solidified at Step 3. They dropped the 'Sports' from their name in 2020, and were relegated back to Step 4 in 2025.

Sports play at Station Road in Mickleover, which opened in 1993, and became an artificial pitch in 2021. It is also home to Derby County women.

They have never passed the FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round, but have reached the FA Trophy 3rd Round proper once, in 2023-24.
