Nuneaton Town continue on the march to the arch on Sunday as they face Sandiacre Town at The Oval in the FA Vase 2nd Round.

The match will take place shortly after the Remembrance Sunday parade in the memorial park adjacent to the ground, and supporters are advised that the ground is not accessible before 1pm.

It is the third time in succession an FA Vase tie has pitted Nuneaton against Step 6 opposition, with the previous two opponents Stafford Town and Knowle playing in the North West Counties Division 1 South and the Midland League Division 1 respectively. This time it's representation from the United Counties Division 1, where Sandiacre Town sit 11th with 8 wins, 5 draws and 7 defeats. Nuneaton's other match against a team in this league this season was a penalty shootout win at Dronfield Town in the United Counties league cup.

Sandiacre Town have reached this stage by beating Lutterworth Athletic 3-0 away, Holbeach United 6-0 at home, and Stone Old Alleynians 2-1 at home. Their 3 games since that win have resulted in defeat at home to Shirebrook Town, and draws against Holwell Sports and Southwell City. Whilst Nuneaton have ended a run of 1 win in 6 (not including penalty shootouts) with 3 straight wins over Daventry Town, Northampton ON Chenecks and Coventry United.

With Nuneaton in celebratory mood with their return to the town one step closer this week, can they take another step towards a first visit to Wembley?

History:

The Saints were formed in 1978, initially as a youth set up, but adding a senior side in the 1979-80 season, joining the Central Alliance League as a founding member.

The ground they still play at, at St Giles Park in the town, was started in 1982 and completed in 1984, and it was opened by Peter Taylor and Roy McFarland from Derby County FC.

They joined the Central Midlands League in 1983, but dropped out in 1990 due to ground grading failure. After merging with Lace Web United they were promoted back to the league in 1992, winning the Premier Division at the first attempt a year later. They entered the FA Vase for the first time in 1995, and their current run to the Second Round is the best in their history, and will be looking to extend it on Sunday.

The club are partnered with Dutch club Sparta 25 and regularly play youth matches against each other for the benefit of both clubs and their players.

This is their 3rd season in the United Counties League Division 1 after being promoted from the Nottinghamshire Senior League in 2022-23.

Current position: 11th - United Counties Division 1 (Step 6)
