Town Dispatch Poachers in Snowy Leicester - Match Report: GNG Oadby Town 0 Nuneaton Town 2
By George Kirk
Nuneaton Town capitalised on their first of two games in hand on 2nd place March Town, to go ten points clear at the table, putting relegation threatened GNG Oadby Town to the sword in snowy conditions.
Acco and Doddsy’s men wasted no time taking the lead, as Kyle Jardine volleyed in early on, with Declan Somel wrapping up the game after only 36 minutes, powering in a header from a corner, allowing Town to take complete control and cruise to victory.
A fairly comfortable evening for Boro despite the weather, that earns them their ninth league win in a row.
Kick-Off:
If you were still tucking into a pre match samosa in the bar, or were arriving late due to driving to the wrong Oadby ground, you’d have more than certainly missed the first chance of the game, as James Harrison pounced on a mix-up at the back, firing just wide of the post.
This would gain Town instant momentum, with Kyle Jardine stinging the keeper's palms from a Callum Carsley cross only minutes later.
As many Boro fans know, if you get away with giving goal-machine Jardine a chance the first time of round, you certainly won’t the second, so there were no surprises when in the 16th minute, Town’s talisman volleyed home from James Harrison’s cross to open the scoring.
From then, the visitors would wake up having a couple of chances of their own, forcing Brandon Bache into two fantastic saves, tipping a looping effort over the bar, and blocking an attempt from point blank range.
However, this spell wouldn’t last long as in the 36th minute, Callum Carsley’s corner would be buried by Declan Somel, giving the Town a comfortable advantage going into the break.
Half-Time: GNG Oadby Town 0-2 Nuneaton Town
For the second forty-five, you might as well have stayed in the bar out of the snow, and enjoyed some of the best samosas in the country, as there was very little to report apart from the weather.
Town had complete control of the game, barely going out of first gear as they dominated possession, and near enough pinned the home side in their own half.
Despite such dominance, Nuneaton did almost take the foot off the gas, with a defensive mix up sending Oadby through on goal, thankfully Bache was on high alert, rushing out to save a one on one.
Boro did almost grab a third in stoppage time, when substitute Dante Hesson was found inside the box, but could only hit over.
Another convincing win for Acco and Doddsy’s men, who continue their impressive winning streak.
