Northern Premier League Midlands
Nuneaton Town 0-0 Corby Town
Attendance - 417
Nuneaton were held to their first draw of the season by Corby Town in the Northern Premier League Midlands on a cold evening at The Oval.
Three changes were made to the starting XI from Saturday’s 3-1 win over Coventry United with Shay Dunn, making his first start, coming into the side at left back replacing Harry Chesterton, Terry Atem replacing Harry Wakefield and Aaron Williams in for the injured Stuart Hendrie.
Declan Somel, Caine Elliot and Bradley Stretton (long term) remained sidelined through injury while Aaron Roberts served his final game of his three-match suspension.
Boro made a positive start to the game and created the first opportunity inside the opening two minutes as Terry Atem burst forward in space before seeing his effort fly over the crossbar.
There was very little to separate the two sides during much of the first half, with clear cut opportunities proving difficult to come by. The next significant chance arrived in the 40th minute when Aaron Williams found Eesa Sawyers who managed to get an acrobatic effort away but his attempt sailed over the bar.
Half Time: Nuneaton Town 0-0 Corby Town
The second half followed a similar pattern, with the hosts struggling to create as they looked to break the deadlock.
The first change of the evening came on 56 minutes with Ross Evans replacing James Harrison.
A few minutes later, Dunn’s evening came to an unfortunate end as the Coventry City loanee who had impressed on his first start, was forced off through injury. He was replaced by Harry Chesterton.
The Boro made a further change as new signing Jimmy O’Neill replaced Terry Atem, who had found chances difficult to convert on the evening.
With Nuneaton still searching for a breakthrough, the final substitution saw club captain Corey Currithers replace Aaron Williams.
Eesa Sawyers was brought down on the edge of the box in the 85th minute by the former Coventry United man Lewis Wilson who received a booking for the challenge.
Ross Evans stepped up to take the resulting free kick, but his effort was straight at the keeper. The Corby stopper spilled the ball but recovered quickly before anyone could capitalise on the rebound.
Luke Softley had an opportunity late on from a tight angle, but Perott in the Corby goal made a smart save at his nearest post.
Despite late efforts from the Boro, neither side could find the breakthrough as the points were shared at The Oval.
