Town Hit Four at Home to Swans - Match Report: Nuneaton Town 4 Newport Pagnell Town 0
By George Kirk
Nuneaton Town kicked off the new year with an emphatic win against mid-table Newport Pagnell Town, in baltic conditions at The Oval.
A lightning fast goal from Eesa Sawyers, set the ball rolling for the Town after only 45 seconds, with Kyle Jardine, Sahel Yessen and James Harrison all getting themselves on the scoresheet in the second half.
Despite the scoreline, the Swans proved to be a solid outfit, making Brandon Bache work hard to secure his 8th clean sheet of the season, as Boro go five points clear at the top of the table.
Kick-Off
On a freezing cold afternoon, Town fans were in serious need of something to warm them up, with volunteers having to clear ice and snow from the stadium, to ensure the game went ahead.
It wouldn’t take long for them to be rewarded, as only 45 seconds in, Kyle Jardine poked Eesa Sawyers through on goal to slot in between the keeper’s legs.
This would give Nuneaton a huge boost, with Super Sawyers almost grabbing his second, firing through a crowd of bodies hitting the side netting.
The visitors had another huge scare not long after, as Aaron William smashed an effort from distance deflecting just wide into the side netting, deceiving the home fans yet again into thinking they had added to their lead.
From that moment, the Swans would have a spell of their own, forcing Brandon Bache into action, tipping a dangerous cross over the bar.
The away side would continue to grow in confidence, coming close to grabbing an equaliser just before the end of the half, when Christian Smail was found unmarked in the box, forcing Loyiso Recci to clear off the line.
Half-Time: Nuneaton Town 1-0 Newport Pagnell Town
Town started the second half just like the first, hitting the visitors hard early doors, as in the 47th minute goal-machine Jardine blasted into the net, with the opposition appealing for an alleged hand-ball from the striker in the build-up.
Midway through the second half, Nuneaton were handed a massive blow when midfield maestro Declan Somel was forced off, following a nasty kick in the face.
However, Acco and Doddsy’s men would not be fazed, nearly getting a third goal when Jardine played through Sahel Yessen, but was unable to convert.
The Swans came close to finding their way back into the game just before the end, as Corvell Pickering forced Bache into a great instinctive save to push past the post.
This would only fire up the Boro, turning a close scare into attack in the 85th minute, with talented youngster Yessen being played through on the counter attack, having an attempt blocked before striking past Ryan Kelly in the visitors goal.
In the 94th minute, Acco and Doddsy’s men put the cherry on top of a sensational performance, when Yessen caused further problems for the away side, playing a beautiful pass to substitute James Harrison, who half-volleyed through the keepers gloves to add a fourth.
A complete performance for the Town, making the efforts from the volunteers to keep the game going ahead, all the more worthwhile.
