Town Hammer Magpies in Top of the Table Clash - Match Report: Nuneaton Town 5 Moulton 0

By George Kirk

Nuneaton Town cruised to an emphatic win five-nil at The Oval against early title rivals Moulton, further cementing their place at the top of the table, extending the gap to six points from second placed Aylestone Park.

A first half header from Charlie Jones sent the Town on their way, with a Kyle Jardine brace and, substitutes James Harrison and Aaron Williams scoring to help Town dismantle the Magpies, who started the day in second.

This keeps Nuneaton’s unbeaten league start alive, with eight wins and a draw out of their opening nine matches.

Kick-Off

Nuneaton started the game full throttle, ensuring there wasn’t a repeat of Tuesday’s midweek draw to Lutterworth Town, where they went two-nil down early on.

A speculative effort from Town bagsman Kyle Jardine fifteen seconds in set the tone of the afternoon, with Kai Thomas blasting a decent chance over the bar not long after.

Following a bright opening twenty minutes, Acco and Doddsy’s men almost gifted the visitors the lead, when Brandon Bache passed into the path of Andrew Hall, who fortunately fired straight at Bache.

This would help Moulton grow in confidence, as their decent passing play caused problems for the home side.

Despite this, it wouldn’t take Town long to get their mojo back, as quality team move resulted in Charlie Jones heading home from a trademark Callum Carsley cross in the 31st minute.

Going into half time, Nuneaton would have been kicking themselves that they hadn’t had the game wrapped up, with Callum Carsley stinging the palms of the Magpies keeper, and Loyiso Recci heading onto the post before the end of the half.

Half-Time: Nuneaton Town 1-0 Moulton

In the second half, Acco and Doddsy’s men came out of the dressing room like bulls that had seen red, as they peppered an onslaught on the visitor’s goal.

It took no time for Nuneaton to grab a second and third, as goal-machine Jardine was on the score sheet yet again, ensuring another team was added to the long list of sides that had been Jardine’d this season.

The first saw Town’s talisman round the keeper to slot in, and the second being a powerfully driven free-kick.

From then on Nuneaton were sailing, passing the ball around with full control, allowing Acco and Doddsy to make five substitutions, resting players for upcoming FA Vase action.

Town continued to be relentless, as Eesa Sawyers forced the Magpies keeper to save onto the post.

A fantastic performance was rounded off in injury time, when substitutes James Harrison and Aaron Williams added a fourth and a fifth with Harrison rounding the keeper to convert and Williams slotting a bouncing ball into the back of the net.

A real statement performance from Acco and Doddsy’s men, that keeps their early momentum moving forward.
