By Owen Jephcote

Nuneaton Town continued their excellent run of form with a 2–0 victory away at Rugby Borough on Saturday afternoon, extending their winning streak to six matches in all competitions while condemning the hosts to a fifth consecutive defeat.

Goals from Terry Atem and Bradley Stretton secured all three points for Town at the Nationwide Windows Arena, as the Town enjoyed another successful trip to Rugby and maintained their push towards the top of the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands table.

Town were given an early warning when Gabriel Bajrami denied Rugby Borough from close range, but it was the visitors who struck first on the half-hour mark.

Charlie Jones ball found found Eesa Sawyers who flicked the ball into releasing Terry Atem. Atem did the rest, beating two defenders before firing a low finish beyond Harvey Randle to give Nuneaton a deserved 1–0 lead.

The goal gave Town the advantage heading into the break, with the visitors looking to build on their lead in the second half.

Nuneaton went close to doubling their advantage shortly after the restart, with Bradley Stretton denied by Randle as Town looked to put the game beyond their opponents.

However, Stretton would have his moment in the 78th minute, finding the net to make it 2–0 and give the visitors the breathing space they had been searching for. Following a short corner, a low-driven strike from the former Coventry City man found its way through a crowd of defenders and between the goalkeeper’s legs before nestling in the net.

The second goal proved decisive, leaving Rugby Borough with too much to do in the closing stages as Town earned another valuable three points on the road.
