Yaxley 0-5 Nuneaton Town
(Sawyers 44, Jardine 68, 81, 86, Edwards 90+1 (p))

Attendance: 181

Kyle Jardine's hattrick and Trevor Edwards stoppage time penalty helped Nuneaton Town secured a 13th in 14 games with a late blitz against a resilient Yaxley. The four goals in the last 25 minutes added to Eesa Sawyers effort at the end of the first half.

Town were forced into changes once again, as due to defensive injuries and personal leave, Corey Currithers dropped into centre back, replaced by Tali Jallow in midfield.

That first half saw Town come up against a new look Yaxley side that were well organised, compact and made themselves difficult to break down. It took 16 minutes for a shot on target as Sawyers cross was turned towards goal by Jardine but the keeper saved well with his feet.

And that was really it for the first half in terms of chances, until just one minute before half time Sawyers drove into the box and was tripped, but the referee allowed the game to continue and the ball fell to Jardine who misjudged the spin of the ball and it went straight back to Sawyers who miskicked it himself past the keeper into the net (1-0).

Half time: Yaxley 0-1 Nuneaton Town

A half time substitution saw Trevor Edwards replace Kamol Campbell who took a bang to the head near the end of the first half.

Nuneaton managed to find another gear in the second half, and on 58 minutes Jardine and Sawyers combined again as the former chested down from a cross for the latter to curl it just wide.

A great move on 62 minutes found Stuart Hendrie unmarked to fire home, but the offside flag went up. From the free kick Town won the ball back but James Harrison lost the ball in the box and Yaxley had a rare break down the left, and the number 6 forced Brandon Bache to be used for the first time in the game. The keeper was equal to the shot though and palmed it wide.

On 68 minutes the second goal finally came, as more good work on the edge of the box found Hendrie and he unleashed an effort from the edge of the box which was well saved by the keeper, but Jardine was on hand to slot the rebound beyond him (2-0).

Two more subs saw Charlie Jones and Dante Hesson replace Hendrie and Aaron Williams. And within 7 minutes they were both involved in increasing the lead further. On 81 minutes Jardine and Hesson combined with a one-two on the edge of the box, before Jardine repeated the trick with Jones, and took on a couple of defenders to find a gap to score his second of the game and Town's 3rd (3-0).

Further gloss was added to the scoreline as Jardine completed his hattrick just 5 minutes later. A free kick into the box was headed back across goal by Loyiso Recci, and Jardine was first to it to loop a header out of the keeper's reach and saw it drop into the goal (4-0).

Nuneaton still weren't finished, and player coach Trevor Edwards playing at left back, tried to create further goals himself, and in stoppage time was tripped just inside the box resulting in the referee pointing to the penalty spot. To the delight of the travelling contingent the fan favourite stepped up to take the penalty, and sent the keeper the wrong way to score his long awaited first goal for the club (5-0).

The full time whistle blew and another 3 points for Nuneaton along with other results falling in their favour, saw the Town within just 11 points of the title, with games in hand to play for most of the challenging sides on Tuesday which could reduce it further.
