Treasurer’s Report - May 2026
After the high drama of April, May was always going to be a quieter month on the pitch – but it proved to be anything but quiet off it, with the curtain coming down on a truly memorable season in some style.
Planning for 2026/27: The Work Starts Immediately
In football, there is no real off-season – at least not off the pitch. As soon as the final whistle sounded on the 2025/26 campaign, planning for life at Step 4 began in earnest. The conversations that might look, from the outside, like they happen over the summer months actually start the moment the season ends – and in many cases, well before it.
Kit and merchandise are among the first priorities. As a club stepping up to a new level for the first time, how we present ourselves matters – and our supporters deserve something special to mark the occasion. Our new home and goalkeeper kits for 2026/27 are currently in production, and new stock in those designs began arriving during May (more on this in the Cash Position section below). We’re working hard to get those kits into supporters’ hands as quickly as possible, with a launch planned for early July.

On the financial planning side, stepping up to the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands brings exciting opportunities – but also new demands. As a Step 4 club, we’re joining a league with different expectations in terms of facilities, staffing, and playing budgets. We’ve been working closely with the league and with our football management team to understand what’s required, and to plan a budget that gives us the best possible chance of competing while keeping the club on a sound financial footing. As always, our aim is to operate as close to cost-neutral as possible across the season, using the income generated through season tickets, sponsorship, matchday revenue and fundraising to cover our costs.
The sponsorship side of things has got off to a flying start (more on this below), and the commercial groundwork being laid now will be vital to making our Step 4 debut a success – on and off the pitch.
UCL Sports Ground Development Cup Final
The month’s only fixture came on Friday 9th May, when we travelled to Stamford FC to take on Moulton FC in the final of the UCL Sports Ground Development Cup, following our reinstatement into the competition earlier in the season. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be on the day, with the game ending in a 2-1 defeat.
While it was disappointing not to add a trophy to the league title secured the previous month, reaching a final in a competition we weren’t even expecting to be involved in this season says a great deal about the progress this club has made, both on and off the pitch. Thank you to everyone who made the trip to Stamford to cheer the team on – the support shown all season has been phenomenal, and it was great to see so many of you there for one last game before the summer break.
Presentation Evening
The following weeks brought one of the highlights of the football calendar – the club’s end of season presentation evening. With back-to-back promotions to celebrate, it was no surprise that this year’s event was bigger than ever, with over 140 guests packing out the room at the Coton Sport and Social Club for a brilliant night.
Awards were presented to players, management and volunteers from across the club, recognising the huge effort that has gone into this campaign both on and off the pitch. A massive thank you to everyone who came along, and to all the volunteers who worked so hard behind the scenes to put on such a memorable evening – it was a fitting way to bring the curtain down on a season that will live long in the memory.
Season Tickets and Sponsorship for 2026/27
Season ticket sales for 2026/27 stand at 206 sold so far. Our early bird window, with prices held at last season’s level, closed on 31st May. From June, season tickets remain available at the same price, and we have now introduced an option to pay in three interest-free instalments – making it easier than ever to secure your place for our Step 4 debut. On the commercial side, Lee Davies and the team have made a flying start to the 2026/27 sponsorship campaign. As things stand, over £42,600 has already been committed by sponsors for next season – almost three times the £14,600 that had been invoiced at the same point last year for the 2025/26 campaign. This is a brilliant early return, and reflects both the excitement around our move to Step 4 and the growing profile of the club following back-to-back promotions.

Expenditure
During May, the club’s outgoings reflected the wind-down of the playing season alongside early preparations for next year, and included:
Final wages and expenses for players and coaching staff for the season
Contractual payments to management
Cost of merchandise sold
Costs of staging the presentation evening, including trophies and awards for players and volunteers
Payment of VAT to HMRCAn initial payment to our kit supplier ahead of the 2026/27 kit launch
Administrative costs remained minimal and included:

Subscription to Xero
Payroll processing
Transaction fees (SumUp & Stripe)
A replacement set of defibrillator pads
May was a quieter month financially, as is normal once the season has finished. With no home fixtures, income was limited to merchandise sales, donations and the regular contribution from the Supporters’ Co-operative 200 Club, against the costs outlined above. This resulted in a net loss of £1,858 for the month, broadly in line with April.
Year to date, the club remains in a strong financial position, with a net profit of £30,910 for the financial year so far.
Cash Position
The club’s cash position remains extremely healthy. The closing bank balance increased to £115,949 during May, a cash surplus of over £20,400 for the month. A significant part of this increase reflects season ticket and sponsorship income for 2026/27 received in advance, with “income in advance” on the balance sheet rising by almost £39,800 during the month. As always, this advance income will be used to fund next season’s playing budget and running costs, helping the club to remain as close to cost neutral as possible during the playing season itself.
It’s also worth noting the increase in our stock figure during May. This represents stock-in-transit – specifically the new home and goalkeeper shirts for 2026/27, which are currently with our supplier and will be ready for collection and shipping in early July. We’re looking forward to getting those into supporters’ hands as soon as possible.
Back to Nuneaton Update
The “Back to Nuneaton” fund stands at £98,202 – an increase of £300 during May.
On the ground project itself, there has been a significant development. We have met with representatives of the new Council administration. They are supportive of the club and our ambition to return to Nuneaton but have reservations about the suitability of Vale View as a preferred site. A follow-up meeting will take place in July to discuss a way forward.

Looking Ahead
With the season now finished, June will be quieter on the pitch, but plenty continues behind the scenes – season ticket sales continue, our new home and goalkeeper kits for 2026/27 are due to launch in early July, and planning for life at Step 4 continues at pace. We also look forward to the follow-up meeting with the Council in July regarding the Back to Nuneaton project. As always, I’ll keep you updated on all of this in next month’s report.
