Treasurer’s Report - November 25

November was a strong and encouraging month for the club, with a run of home fixtures giving us the opportunity to build on the momentum generated earlier in the season. Strong attendances, progress in cup competitions and strong merchandise sales combined to deliver a healthy monthly surplus, reinforcing the club’s positive year‑to‑date position.

The headline once again must be the attendance figures. With four home matches during the month, crowds remained consistently high and continued the upward trend we have seen since the start of the season. Attendances of 474 against Coventry United, 523 versus Sandiacre Town, 578 for the visit of Histon and 566 against Aylestone Park produced an average home attendance of 535 for November across all games and 575 for league matches. The League Cup and FA Vase rules dictate that gate receipts after officials’ expenses (and VAT!) must be shared with the away clubs, something that we have been beneficiaries of in early rounds. In respect to this, Coventry United received £1,218 and Sandiacre Town received £1,513, related to those respective matches.

On the pitch, results were also positive. We recorded three wins from four home games, including cup victories over Coventry United in the League Cup and Sandiacre Town in the FA Vase. The latter also brought in £900 of prize money from the FA. In the league, a rare and narrow home defeat to Histon was followed by a second-half demolition of Aylestone Park, which ensured we kept our destiny in our own hands at the top of the league, as we move into December.

Operation 600

The two home games in November pushed the average attendance up to 547 creeping towards “Operation 600” target. Hitting 600 would help us push as towards our “Back to Nuneaton” target from matchday income. This actually is a positive result – during last season we saw a dip in attendances during the November and December, despite some excellent performances, so growing our average even slightly represents a step forward.

November brought in new record - £5,874 of merchandise sales in the month, which equates to an average of £1,469 per home game. This is simply unbelievable support, and is testimony to the work that Sporting Touch, Richard Dean and Mark Lacrouts have done to keep our merchandise fresh and relevant. Of course, a fresh and relevant range of merchandise counts for nothing if there is nobody to purchase it, and therefore thanks to all that have made a purchase.

As well, as the return of our winter lines, there were some new additions such as “away” scarves and hats and a range of winter coats. The star performer by a mile, however, was a duck. Not any old duck. November 2025 saw the start of the duck revolution when Hudson the Duck burst onto the scene. 200 Hudsons were sold in the month, raising £1,000 of sales, with more on the way for December. Hudson didn’t stop there, as he can now be found in almost every corner of the global promoting our club.

The Christmas 200 club draw was made at the end of the month, with a bumper £500 top prize. I’m delighted to say that the winner and former 200 Club administrator, Dave Hall, plus two of the £50 prizes winners generously donated their winnings to the “Back to Nuneaton” fund, though this will go through in December’s accounts. I’m sure everyone will join me in giving our heartfelt thanks to these individuals for this wonderful gesture.

Sponsorship and Matchday Opportunities

Commercial interest around the club continues to build. We still have match sponsorship packages available for upcoming games, which offer a brilliant opportunity for local businesses to promote themselves while enjoying a special matchday experience. The response so far this season has been fantastic, and we’re confident these final packages will be taken up in the coming weeks. These can be secured here:

Expenditure

In November, we incurred £18,502 in direct costs, covering:

  • Contractual pay to management

  • Five weeks of players’ wages and expenses

  • The cost of merchandise sold.

  • The share of Cup games gate receipts

  • Other matchday expenses

Administrative expenses were £268, including:

  • Website hosting

  • Subscription to Xero

  • Payroll processing

  • Transaction fees (SumUp & Stripe)

The four home games and stellar merchandise sales drove us to a surplus of £1,860 during the month, which is in line with expectations. This now means we have a surplus of £48,828 year to date, which is largely driven by the higher than budget attendances (budget 300, compared to the current average of 547) and in turn has continued to allow us to grow the “Back to Nuneaton” fund.

As per October, we are still tracking to finish the season within the expected and budgeted deficit range of £20,000 across the “playing” months, and even edge towards break-even if we hit that “Operation 600” target!

Regarding our cash position, we spent just £51 more than we received in the month of November, which is too small a value to even register on the chart above. As you can see, the small net outflows of cash in September and October have not made a serious dent in the cash reserves we build up over the summer, meaning we have a healthy cash balance of £100,400 at the end of November. This is an increase of £3,500 from the end of October and £60,000 higher than the same point last year. Of course, the majority of this cash is already ringfenced for “Back to Nuneaton” purposes and if the home attendances increase further, than the majority of the remaining balance will also become ringfenced for getting us back playing in the town.

What to expect in December

December kicks off with a trip to Leicester to play GNG Oadby FA Vase, and we return there in the league on the weekend before Christmas. Between then, trips to Moulton and a home game against Easington Sports scheduled. This builds up to our Christmas fixture at home to Coventry United on the 27th of December. Hopefully this will be a bumper attendance, and post-match their will also be a Christmas gathering in the bar, with food laid on by the club. The Nuneaton Town Supporters Co-operative will also be making the draw for the Christmas raffle.

Hopefully, the Christmas game see Santa bring us a small surplus for the month, if we are on his good list!

Back to Nuneaton Update

During October, the fund increased by £5,374 and now stands at £77,340 raised.

The was largely driven by the gate receipts from the two league home games, plus other donations made by supporters. Due to the gate share with the away team, it’s not possible to contribute from those matches.

November saw a huge milestone – Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council approved a “lease in principle” on the land off Vale View. As well as being significant to the project, it also points to confidence in the way the club has been set up and is being ran.

There have also been positive meetings with the Football Foundation over funding, but the next key steps will be to validate whether the known issues at Vale View – parking, access, traffic impact and what’s under the ground can be mitigated.  The conversations so far with the local authorities suggest that in can, but more in-depth investigations are required to prove this and also, importantly, place a cost on the work required. It should also be noted that if Vale View hits an insurmountable problem, the Council are willing to work with us to provide as suitable alternative.

If anyone else would like to make a donation, small or large, to the “Back to Nuneaton” fund, you can do so here or by emailing finance@nuneatontownfc.co.uk
