Treasurer’s update - December 2025
December was another excellent and encouraging month for the club, rounding off the calendar year with excellent performances both on and off the pitch. Strong results, record-breaking attendances, excellent merchandise sales and successful supporter-led fundraising combined to deliver a healthy monthly surplus and further strengthen the club’s year-to-date financial position.
The headline once again must be the attendance figures. December included two home league fixtures, culminating in a post-reformation record attendance of 863 for the Christmas period game against Coventry United on 27 December at The Oval. This was (obviously!) the highest attendance of the season to date and underlines the growing momentum around the club. The atmosphere generated on the day was exceptional and shows that festive fixtures are attraction to both regular and occasional supporters. Hopefully the quality of the match will encourage those occasional supporters to become regulars.
On the pitch, December brought plenty to be pleased about, even if it started with some disappointment. Exiting the FA Vase away at GNG Oadby Town was frustrating, particularly given how much the competition means to supporters. However, the response from the players was excellent, bouncing back just days later with a convincing 4–0 away win at Moulton in the league. That result really set the tone for the rest of the month, which also included two hard‑fought home league victories at The Oval. The weather put paid to the other scheduled game, a return to GNG Oadby Town in the league this time, which should have happening on the last Saturday before Christmas.
The other home game in the month was against Easington Sports, which saw a slightly below average 518 attend.
Operation 600
The two home games in November pushed the average attendance up to 571, just 29 short “Operation 600” target. However, this was largely driven by the Christmas period game, which was to some extent a “one-off.” We do, however, have another game across the festive period, though not quite a New Years Day game. However, another bumper crowd is expected. After that, attendances historically dip in January and February as the weather and the long stretch to payday bite.
December also delivered another excellent month for merchandise sales, with £4,200 generated during the month. Notably, over £900 of this total was taken at the club’s market stall in Nuneaton Town Centre on Christmas Eve, helping to raise the club’s profile in the town while delivering a significant financial contribution. We also had a fantastic run of sales on the Pool Table, with over £1,500 of sales at each of the home matches during November and December. Merchandise sales now stand at approximately £23,000 for the season to date, continuing the outstanding support shown by supporters throughout the season.
Fundraising activity in December was also excellent. The Christmas Meat Blackout, with the prize kindly donated by Frank Parker’s Butchers, raised £450. In addition, the Nuneaton Town Supporters Co-operative Christmas Raffle raised over £1,200. Sincere thanks go to everyone who donated prizes, sold tickets, and took part in these initiatives – your support is greatly appreciated.
Sponsorship and Matchday Opportunities
Commercial interest around the club continues to build. We still have match sponsorship packages available for upcoming games, which offer a brilliant opportunity for local businesses to promote themselves while enjoying a special matchday experience. The response so far this season has been fantastic, and we’re confident these final packages will be taken up in the coming weeks. These can be secured here:
We have some exciting and cost-effective tailored packages to, designed to businesses of all sizes/ If interested, contact Lee Davies at commercial@nuneatontownfc.co.uk
Expenditure
In December, we incurred £12,526 in direct costs, covering:
Contractual pay to management
Three weeks of players’ wages and expenses
The cost of merchandise sold.
Other matchday expenses
Administrative expenses were £241, including:
Website hosting
Subscription to Xero
Payroll processing
Transaction fees (SumUp & Stripe)
The December fixtures and strong merchandise sales resulted in a monthly surplus of £1,867, bringing the year-to-date surplus to £50,695. This continued positive performance is largely driven by attendances significantly ahead of budget, alongside sustained supporter engagement through merchandise and fundraising activities.
We continue to push towards our goal of being cost neutral across the playing months, which means our matchday and other monthly income matching our operating & costs across the playing months, meaning we don’t eat into the sponsorship and season ticket revenue built up in June and July. This will allow us to maximise the amount we contribute to the “Back to Nuneaton” fund during the season.
Regarding our cash position, the bumper attendances and merchandise sales meant we spent £6000 less than money coming in during December, meaning we have a healthy cash balance of £106,400 at the end of the month. The “Back to Nuneaton” fund represents a significant part of that. You may be wondering why the change in our cash balance (up £6000) is different from our surplus for the month of £1,897. Firstly, not all cash we collect and spend is ours. 20% of all of our income, with the exception of fundraising and donations, are VAT and has to be paid across to HMRC once every three months. Also, tax deductions from players pay, similarly get paid over to HMRC every three months. Various other timing differences also contribute to the difference between cash and surplus (profit).
What to expect in January
As already mentioned, there is no New Years Day games in our league, so the new year kicks off on the 3rd January against Newport Pagnell Town. This game is still considered part of the festive period, so another bumper crowd is expected. Away games at March Town United and the huge derby at Hinckley AFC have a home match against Leicester Nirvana between them, before a trip to Eynesbury Rovers ends the month.
With five playing weekends, and only two home matches, an operating deficit is expected for the month.
Looking further ahead, we are holding a fans forum on 12th February at the Queens Hall, where you will hear from Russell Dodd and Darren Acton, and I will be giving a financial update that will touch on the financial implications in relation to future progression up the non-league pyramid.
Back to Nuneaton Update
During December, the fund increased by £6279 and now stands at £83,619 raised.
The was again largely driven by the gate receipts from the two league home games, plus other donations made by supporters, and the amounts raised from the Christmas Raffle.
During December, further meetings were held with the Football Foundation to understand how their funding framework would fit in with the wider project.
We also looked to further the project by seeking for partners to carry out the pre-planning work regarding ground investigations and transport planning, and for an experienced consultant to ensure we progress smoothly through the planning process.
Once these partnerships are in place, we should be able to provide an update on possible project timelines.
If anyone else would like to make a donation, small or large, to the “Back to Nuneaton” fund, you can do so here or by emailing finance@nuneatontownfc.co.uk
