After a season out, there will be a Nuneaton team in the FA Cup again this season again as the phoenix Nuneaton Town make their debut. They play Coleshill Town of Step 4 (1 league above) Northern Premier League Division 1 Midlands, so a tough game is expected. Nuneaton already have 2 competitive games under their belts due to the United Counties League's early start, this will be Coleshill Town's first competitive game this season with their league not starting until next Saturday.
However, Pack Meadow will be familiar surroundings for Town, having played Chelmsley Town there twice last season, in the Midland League Division 1 and Midland League Cup, winning on both occasions.
Though Nuneaton definitely won't be one of the favourites to win this competition, unlike potential others they will play in this season, an FA Cup run could add valuable funds to the club as they look to return to Nuneaton in the coming years.
Coleshill Town were founded in 1885 as Coleshill and District, before becoming Town shortly after. After reforming as Coleshill United after World War 1, they made a slow and steady rise through the leagues, having moved from their Memorial Ground to Pack Meadow in 1974 which helped them achieve this. They reached Step 4 for the first time in 2018, a year after reaching the FA Vase semi finals losing out to South Shields, where they have remained since.
Their best FA Cup run to date was in 2016-17, where they reached the third qualifying round, Nuneaton Borough have reached the third round proper on three occasions, the last being the memorable clash with Middlesbrough 20 seasons ago.
Last season Coleshill beat Eastwood CFC in an Extra Preliminary Round replay, then beat Brocton in the Preliminary Round, before losing 5-0 to Mickleover in the 1st Qualifying Round.
Directions from Nuneaton town centre:
Take the A444 south to the M6, then head north on the M6 to junction 4, then take the exit for the A446, take the third exit at the roundabout towards Coleshill, and after crossing another roundabout take the right slip road onto Coventry Road B4117. Follow the road down a hundred yards or so then turn right into Packington Lane, the ground is down the road on the left.
Public transport:
Trains leave for Coleshill Parkway from Nuneaton at 9 and 45 minutes past each hour, and return at 6 and 36 minutes past each hour. The journey takes 15 minutes. From the train station it's an hour's walk of 2.6 miles, therefore it's recommended to use the X13 bus to Chelmsley Wood in both directions which stops at the end of Packington Drive and is available every half hour.
