Town mark return to The Oval with emphatic win - Match report: NTFC 4 GNG Oadby Town 1
By George Kirk
Acco and Doddy’s men treat Town fans to a goal-fest, cruising to back to back wins in the League.
Town showed the visitors no mercy, in a night where Kyle Jardine, Charlie Jones, Josh Crossley and Essa Sawyer all found the back of the net, helping Nuneaton continue their solid start to the season.
Despite Oadby holding their own early on, the home side’s quality and firepower was too much to handle, with Nuneaton’s opposition having a man sent off for the second game in a row.
Kick Off
The opening twenty minutes were very cagey to say the least, with both teams being unable to break each other down. GNG were doing their best to frustrate, drawing Nuneaton fouls in the middle of the park.
Harvey Dosanjh gave the Town a couple of early scares, with the opening two chances of the game, firing an effort at Brandon Bache off a one-on-one and toe poking just over the bar from distance.
This was a real wake-up call for Nuneaton, who pushed forward with Kyle Jardine forcing Adam Binks into a save from close range and Charlie Jones heading over a golden chance from the resulting corner.
In the 32nd minute, the Town would profit from this momentum, as Jardine was tripped into the box winning a penalty. Up stepped talismanic Jardine, who fired in low and hard off the post to open his account for the campaign.
Eight minutes later, Jones could forget about that earlier miss, poking into the back of the net following a corner, giving Acco and Doddy’s men a two goal advantage.
On the stroke of half time, Callum Carsley almost had a third, firing an effort towards the top left corner, but it was palmed over.
Half Time: Nuneaton Town 2-0 GNG Oadby Town
After the break Nuneaton continued to press forward, but would be hit with a sucker punch as straight after Kai Thomas was denied by a super save, GNG capitalised on a lapse in concentration at the back, with Stanley Mugisha converting from just inside the box.
With the possibility of a comeback looming, the home side made three changes with Aaron Brown, Eesa Sawyers and Josh Crossley coming on to help see the game out.
Within two minutes of being on the pitch, Crossley had his name on the score sheet, working his way into the box and sneaking the ball under the keeper in the 74th minute.
Shortly after, Acco and Doddy’s tactical genius would work wonders yet again, as exciting, young talent, Dante Hesson was brought on, whose energy and skill frustrated the visitors even more.
This was highlighted when in the 82nd minute, Lambert Loisonga Tosangy pushed Hesson to the ground, leaving the referee no choice but to give him a second yellow card, giving the away side a mountain to climb.
In the 93rd minute, Hesson impressed once more, playing a lovely ball across the box to fellow substitute Essa Sawyers, who saw his deflected strike nestle in the back of the net.
Another huge step forward for newly-promoted Town, putting to rest any pre-season woes.
