Two months into the season, and at long last Nuneaton Town are at home on a Saturday afternoon, as they face Loughborough Students at The Oval.

Nuneaton notched up a 3rd straight win on Monday evening as Eesa Sawyers won and scored a late penalty as they battled to a 1-0 win at St Ives Town. After losing 4 of the first 5 games in all competitions, Loughborough Students have picked up some great form, and have won 6 and drawn 1 of their last 7 matches, including 10 points from their last 12 in the league. So it is expected to be a tough contest for Nuneaton as they look to go 4 on the bounce and keep up with the teams at the top of the table.

This is the first meeting between the modern Loughborough Students and Nuneaton Town, however Nuneaton Borough did play Loughborough College in the Central Amateur League in the 1937-38 season, an 89 year gap between meetings.

About our opponents:

The Scholars were founded in 1920 as Loughborough College, and after playing amateur football throughout the first 46 years, they joined the Leicestershire Senior League before returning to amateur in 1972. They were promoted to the Midland Combination in 2007, and then the Midland Alliance in 2009, and shortly after moved from a groundshare with Loughborough Dynamo to their own stadium at the University. The club avoided relegation in 2014 by virtue of Causeway United's dissolution, and again narrowly avoided it in 2017. The Scholars were moved to the United Counties League in 2019, and after reaching the FA Vase semi finals in 2022, they were promoted to Step 4 for the first time in 2024 with a 7-0 play off final win over Skegness Town. Loughborough finished 15th and 17th in their first 2 seasons at Step 4.

Tom Curtis and Bradley Pritchard have both featured for both Loughborough University and Nuneaton Borough.

Kash Kasukumya is top of the Loughborough, and joint top of the league's goalscoring charts, and he will be one to keep an eye on.
