October Fixture Preview

Matt Jones looks at our October fixtures after a September which started with exits from the FA Cup and FA Trophy before 3 straight league wins boosted us up the table from 18th to 6th at this early stage of the season.

Saturday 3rd - Loughborough Students (h)

Two months into the season and finally a home game on a Saturday, as we take on the Loughborough University Students team in the first meeting between any form of these two clubs in 89 years. The Scholars have picked up some great form during September, and are on a 7 match unbeaten run in all competitions, winning 6 of them, and will be a tough challenge despite sitting 12th at the end of September. Kash Kasukumya has 7 goals for them this season already and will be one of the main men for the defence to marshal.

Current placing as at 1st October - 12th (3 wins, 2 draws, 3 defeats, 19 scored, 13 conceded, 11 points)

Tuesday 6th - Boston Town (h)

A second home game in 3 days sees Boston Town make the long trip to The Oval on a Tuesday night. Last season’s United Counties Premier Division North champions have made a good start to the season and won at The Oval for a second time in 2026 as they beat our landlords Bedworth United 2-0 on the 19th September. However that Bedworth win and the win over Barwell 3 days later are their only ones since mid-August, so Nuneaton will be looking to get revenge for their Champions match defeat back in April.

Current placing as at 1st October - 8th (4 wins, 3 draws, 4 defeats, 15 scored, 18 conceded, 15 points)

Saturday 10th - Rugby Borough (a)

Address: Nationwide Windows Arena, Kilsby Lane, Rugby, CV21 4PN

The second of five Saturday games this month sees us travel to Rugby Borough for the second time this season. Nuneaton had a battling 1-0 win in the FA Trophy thanks to a James Armson winner in the first half. The other Boro had a flying start to the season in their first as the senior side in Rugby following Town’s relegation last season, winning their first 4 before our win there, which kicked off a run of no wins in 5. Three straight wins followed before three straight defeats, and they will be looking to avoid continuing the form that has seen them slip off the top of the table, and having the most league defeats of any of the top 15. Nuneaton will be looking to take advantage of the recent inconsistency and win two out of two at Kilsby Lane.

Former Nuneaton players Lathaniel Rowe-Turner and Wes York could feature for Rugby.

Current placing as at 1st October - 3rd (6 wins, 1 draw, 5 defeats, 17 scored, 18 conceded, 19 points)

Saturday 17th - Belper Town (h)

Nuneaton’s fourth game of the month sees Belper Town visit The Oval, in the first ever competitive meeting between the two teams. The only recorded meeting was a friendly in July 2016, that Nuneaton won 6-1. Belper have struggled for form in the opening couple of months, and have no win in 3 going into October. Their only away success came with a 3-0 win at Boston Town on 12th September. Harry Draper is the man to watch, with his 4 goals making him the only player so far to score more than once for a Belper side that has just 9 league goals in 10 games so far this season.

Current placing as at 1st October - 17th (2 wins, 4 draws, 4 defeats, 9 scored, 11 conceded, 10 points)

Monday 19th - Barwell (a)

Address: Kirkby Road, Barwell, Leicestershire, LE9 8FQ

Nuneaton Town are meeting a few teams this season that the Boro faced before extinction, and Barwell is no exception, as the first of the two A47 derbies plays out on an October Monday evening. It’s set to be a tasty clash given the recent history between these two sides, as Nuneaton make a second visit to Kirkby Road in consecutive seasons, a place that was temporarily Nuneaton Borough’s home in those final days. Barwell themselves have struggled for form since their first ever relegation last season. Both of their league wins were picked up in the space of 5 days as they took a surprise 3-0 victory over current league leaders Sutton Coldfield Town following it up with a 3-1 win over St Ives Town. However they go into October with 3 straight defeats.

Former Nuneaton players Aaron O’Connor, Brady Hickey, Charlie Dowd and Herve Pepe Ngoma could all feature.

Current placing as at 1st October - 19th (2 wins, 3 draws, 6 defeats, 14 scored, 16 conceded, 9 points)

Saturday 24th - Boldmere St Michaels (a)

Address: The Amber Arena and Community Stadium, Church Road, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, B73 5RY

Nuneaton’s final away game of the month is another local one, in a month with very little travel, as they make a second trip to the town of Sutton Coldfield in two months, and a second trip in 3 seasons to the Amber Arena, as they face Boldmere St Michaels. Nuneaton drew with Smethwick Rangers here in the Midland League Division 1, and will be hoping for three points this time around. Boldmere were billed as one of the favourites to go down after a disappointing preseason, but they have rectified that in style with just one defeat in their opening 9 fixtures, a 1-0 away defeat to Belper Town. Bedworth’s FA Trophy win at the Amber Arena is Boldmere’s only home defeat so far, and Kyle Byrne’s and Tolani Omotola’ 9 goals between them so far makes for an attack that has fired them into the top 10 with plenty of games in hand.

Current placing as at 1st October - 9th (4 wins, 2 draws, 1 defeat, 17 scored, 8 conceded, 14 points)

Saturday 31st - Coventry United (h)

Nuneaton’s final game of the month is a Halloween showdown with local rivals Coventry United. Nuneaton will be hoping to avoid a horror show against the team they pipped to the United Counties League Premier Division South title last season, despite Coventry United’s 3-0 victory over Town in April in front of over 1700 delaying the title celebrations for another few days. The two sides have formed somewhat of a rivalry in the last year or so, and United have made a good start to their first ever season in Step 4, and will start off October still in the FA Cup, with a long trip to Leiston on the cards after a memorable win at Hednesford Town in the previous round in front of over 1300. A tight game could be expected as only Bedworth’s games have had fewer goals (16) than Coventry’s at 18.

Former Nuneaton players Cody Mullan, Chris Cox and James Harrison could all feature.

Current placing as at 1st October - (4 wins, 2 draws, 3 defeats, 9 scored, 9 conceded, 14 points)
