After a long first season for the reformed Nuneaton Town which resulted in a first league title for 26 years, the boys in blue and white have a chance to end the season with a double on Wednesday as they face league foes Cradley Town at Walsall FC's Bescot Stadium.
Nuneaton Town have got past Coventry Copsewood (3-2), Paget Rangers (5-1), and Smethwick Rangers (2-1) to reach the final, whilst Cradley Town have overcame Chelmsley Town (2-1), Gornal Athletic (on pens after a 2-2 draw), and FC Stratford (2-0).
At the time of writing nearly 1000 tickets had been sold in the Nuneaton end, which coupled with Cradley's allocation would make it the biggest attendance at a Nuneaton Town game since reformation.
Cradley Town known 'The Hammers' were formed in 1970 as a merger of Albion Rovers and Haden Rangers, joining the Midland Combination Division 2 as Albion Haden United. They renamed as Cradley Town in 1975, and transferred to the West Midlands Regional League in 1983 after a couple of promotions. They were promoted to the Midland Alliance in 1999 after finishing runners up in the Premier Division. They were relegated back in 2010 having finished bottom of the table with no league wins all season. In 2020 when the West Midlands Regional League was no longer a step 6 league, Cradley Town were transferred to the Midland League Division 1 and have been there ever since.
It promises to be a thrilling end to the season in which Nuneaton could win a trophy they're not actually able to qualify for next season due to being in Step 5 and therefore in the Birmingham Senior Cup draw. So come and witness some history and cheer on your boys to a historic league and cup double, and hopefully create a fitting end to a historic season as Nuneaton Town go on to prepare for a new league next season!
