Town Hit Eight at Highgate - FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round Match Report: Highgate United 0 Nuneaton Town 8
By George Kirk
Nuneaton Town run riot in Shirley, cruising to an emphatic victory away to Highgate United, sending them to the next round of the FA Vase in style.
A bombardment of attacking quality blew away the home side, with a twenty-two minute hat trick from Kyle Jardine inspiring James Spruce, Eesa Sawyers, Jayden Martin, Dante Hesson and Corey Currithers to all get on the score sheet.
This earns Nuneaton their place in the next round, where they will take on Knowle FC between the 19th and 21st of September.
Kick-Off
The referees whistle acted as a starting gun for the Nuneaton, taking no time to open the scoring, when in the 9th minute Kyle Jardine found himself one on one with the keeper, firing an effort towards goal that deflected into the roof of the net.
Six minutes later, Jardine would find his name on the score sheet yet again, as Eesa Sawyers threaded a delightful ball to Town’s talisman, hitting low and deflecting into the goal in the 15th minute.
Jardine would continue to cause nightmares for United, rattling the bar with a free-kick, before putting the cherry on the cake, nodding in from a Callum Carsley corner, to complete a twenty-two minute hat trick.
Things would continue to get better and better for Acco and Doddsy’s men as Spruce found the back of the net 28 minutes in, and Eesa Sawyers sitting down the Highgate keeper and rolling in to make it five on the 33rd minute mark.
Town almost grabbed a sixth before half-time, fortunately for Highgate Jardine’s lob went just over the bar.
Half-Time: Highgate United 0-5 Nuneaton Town
At half-time Acco and Doddsy made three changes with Kyle Jardine, Charlie Jones and Eesa Sawyers coming off for Stuart Hendrie, Declan Somel and Jayden Martin, ensuring the squad were in the best possible position for Town’s Bank Holiday Monday clash at home to Yaxley.
It took no time for Nuneaton to continue from where they left off, when in the 50th minute Callum Carsley whipped in one of his trademark crosses to Jayden Martin who nodded in on his competitive debut.
Only two minutes later, Martin almost had his second of the afternoon, heading just wide from close range.
In the 62nd minute, another talented youngster in Town’s ranks made his mark, with Dante Hesson dispatching from the penalty spot.
Nuneaton punished for the final time, when Corey Currithers haunted his former club to make it eight.
Towards the end, Brandon Bache was forced into action on a couple of occasions to keep a clean sheet, on a day Town dominated to cruise into the next round of the FA Vase.
