By George Kirk

Nuneaton Town treated fans to another goal fest at the Oval, as they ruthlessly dispatched Yaxley, continuing their perfect start in the League.

Declan Somel produced an inspired performance, completing a clinical hat-trick to earn himself the match ball, with Callum Carsley, James Harrison and Kyle Jardine also finding the back of the net.

Despite the Cuckoo’s early equaliser, Acco and Doddsy’s men showed dominance and control, cruising to yet another statement victory, solidifying their place at the top of the table.

Kick-Off

After Saturday’s sensational performance away at Highgate, Town fans were left feeling a sense of Déjà vu when Kyle Jardine put the ball on a plate for Callum Carsley to open the scoring five minutes in.

After a high flying start, Acco and Doddsy’s men were left stunned in the 11th minute, when an under-hit back pass from Carsley was pounced upon by Herbie Hilliard who fired in off the post to grab an early equaliser.

It didn’t take long for the Town to find their feet again, as an Eesa Sawyers cross was met at the back post by Declan Somel, smashing in on the half volley in the 21st minute.

Only eight minutes later, Carsley was back in the good books after his mistake, chipping a sublime free-kick onto the head of James Harrison, nestling in the bottom corner.

Nuneaton almost had two more before the break, with a last ditch interception and a save down low from the Cuckoo’s keeper preventing talismanic Jardine.

Half-Time: Nuneaton Town 3-1 Yaxley

Not long after the break, goal machine Jardine would find himself in the spotlight yet, as he was found in space by James Harrison, firing home from inside the box.

Sawyers made himself a menace for the away side, with his fancy footwork being too much to handle for the opposition, creating space for the Town to pounce upon.

In the 68th minute, Town yet again exploited the gaps that Sawyers was creating, as Somel found space bagging his second of the game.

Nuneaton would continue to show no mercy throughout the rest of the second half, bringing on talented youngsters Dante Hesson and Jayden Martin, who pushed for a sixth.

With six minutes to go, Town would round off a fantastic performance, as Super Somel volleyed in from Carsley’s cutback to claim the match ball.

A real Bank Holiday bonanza for Acco and Doddsy’s men, treating fans to 14 goals in two games.
