Declan’s Double sees Town Comeback against the Hares - Match Report: NTFC 3 March Town United 1

By George Kirk

A second half resurgence earns Nuneaton Town their third consecutive win in the league, thanks to an inspiring performance from midfielder Declan Somel, who’s double helped Town triumph at home to March Town United.

James Spruce sealed the deal late on for the home side, firing in to secure all three points.

The visitors proved to be Town’s toughest test of the season so far, taking the lead just before half time as Daniel Cotton found the back of the net, but just couldn’t hold on, as Nuneaton’s resilience helped them prevail.

Kick-Off

Going into the game, the question on many fans lips was ‘how would Nuneaton respond to their first defeat of the season?’ after being knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend away to Coleshill Town.

Fans were especially fearing the worst early on, as Lewis Hilliard flashed just wide of the post for the visitors.

It wouldn’t take long, for the home side to settle those early nerves, as Acco and Doddsy’s men pushed forward, with Eesa Sawyers heading past the post, and Kyle Jardine rattling an effort off the post, being caught just offside.

The visitors would prove to be no pushovers, as they continued to cause problems, forcing Brandon Bache into a couple of saves midway through the second half.

In the 39th minute, the Hares would take a shock lead, with Daniel Cotton driving forward and firing in past Bache, causing uproar with the referee missing an alleged foul in the build-up. Town captain Loyiso Recci was handed a yellow card for his protests.

Half-Time: Nuneaton Town 0-1 March Town United

Nuneaton came out rejuvenated in the second half as James Harrison crashed an effort against the post early on.

It was further reinforced that the half-time team talk had sunk in, when in the 65th minute, a James Harrison cross was headed in by Declan Somel.

Only three minutes later, and Somel was there again to haunt the visitors, blasting in a rebound from a Callum Carsley corner in the 68th minute, completing a quick-fire turnaround.

Acco and Doddsy’s men had clearly got their mojo back, with James Harrison almost grabbing a third, curling just wide of the post from the edge of the box.

There would still be time for a third, as in classic Nuneaton Town fashion, James Spruce was left free to convert past United’s keeper, cementing the victory in the 95th minute.

Town back on track, with a huge game looming midweek against local rivals Atherstone Town.
