Talismanic Jardine rescues late point to ensure Town’s unbeaten start continues - Match Report: Nuneaton Town 2 Lutterworth Town 2

By George Kirk

Nuneaton Town fought back from two goals down at The Oval, to earn a vital point against a tricky Lutterworth Town side, going eight league games unbeaten in the process.

Acco and Doddsy’s men were forced to dig in, as Jarred Acton and Amarvir Sandhu fired the Swifts into a shock lead in the first half, with it taking a worldy from Callum Carsley and a late Kyle Jardine strike to salvage a point.

Lutterworth gave Nuneaton their toughest test so far this season, with their resilient defending and pace on the counter attack frustrating throughout the game, forcing Nuneaton to show real character to comeback.

Kick-Off

After seven league wins in a row, Town fans entered The Oval expecting a convincing win against mid-table Lutterworth, with Nuneaton sitting pretty at the top of the table.

However, from the opening minute The Swifts showed that they would be no pushovers, as an audacious lob almost looped in over Brandon Bache.

Lutterworth would further prove this, when they opened the scoring five minutes in, as Jared Acton leaped highest to nod in from a corner.

Not used to being on the back foot, Town’s frustrations would show as Michael McGrath lunged in with a naughty two footed tackle, receiving a yellow card which could easily have been a red.

Midway through the half, Declan Somel almost drew the score forcing Josh Wormleighton into a good save.

This would act as false hope for the blue and white army, when in the 21st minute Amarviv Sandhu grabbed the visitors second, following a sharp break and ruthless finish.

Kyle Jardine almost pulled one back not long after, with another super save from Wormleighton keeping the opposition’s two-goal lead intact.

The Swifts would limit Nuneaton to few chances, with their high fitness level and resilient defending being difficult to break down.

The second half would be an absolute cracker.

Inspired substitutions from Acco and Doddsy saw Danico Johnson, Stuart Hendrie and Charlie Jones enter the action, who instantly brought energy and creativity into the fold.

This would show when Wormleighton pulled off an incredible double save to deny The Town, with the resulting corner seeing Callum Carsley curl a fabulous strike into the top left corner in the 67th minute, following a smart one-two.

Nuneaton would carry this momentum forward, forcing Wormleighton into action on multiple occasions, who was having a fantastic performance keeping the visitors lead.

Despite, The Swifts keeper’s excellence, Acco and Doddsy’s men would grab an equaliser, as Kyle Jardine outmuscled his man, to smash into the roof of the net in the 89th minute.

Nuneaton would push for a winner in added-time, but would fall just short on this occasion.

On the whole, a huge point for The Town, showing their ability to dig-in and comeback against tough opposition.
