Town Handed Early Exit at the Hands of Decisive Dudley- Match Report: Nuneaton Town 1 Dudley Town 3 (Senior Cup)

By George Kirk

Nuneaton Town suffer sucker punch defeat to clinical Dudley Town, ending hopes winning the trophy at the first hurdle.

After Charlie Jones cancelled out Kyle Moseley’s opener, two instinctive finishes from Jordan Davies helped fire Dudley into the next round.

Kick-Off

Town started the game off the pace, almost gifting the visitors an early lead, giving the ball away with Tom Owen’s effort saved by Brandon Bache.

Nuneaton responded to this early slip up well, pushing forward as Dante Hesson threatened stinging the keeper’s palms and hitting another strike just over.

As the home side pushed bodies forward, it would eventually come to bite them in the 41st minute, when Kyle Moseley slotted in following a break on the counter attack.

Despite being the better side, Town would go into the break with work to do.

Half-Time: Nuneaton Town 0-1 Dudley Town

After a rough end to the first half, Charlie Jones would spark hope of a second half comeback, levelling up the score sending a bullet header into the back of the net from a James Harrison cross.

This spurred on Nuneaton, who piled on the pressure getting into dangerous areas, but being unable to convert.

Town would rue these missed chances, as Jordan Davies regained the visitor’s advantage, smashing in past Bache off a counter attack in the 75th minute.

Thirteen minutes later, it was game, set and match, with defiant Davies back on the scoresheet in the 88th minute, pouncing on a blocked effort to convert.

This rounded off a tough night for Nuneaton Town, who must now put their focus on Saturday’s clash away at Dronfield in the League Cup.
