Town see Cup Semi-Final Heartbreak at the Hands of Ruthless Ravens - Match Report: Nuneaton Town 1 Coalville Town 5
By George Kirk
Nuneaton Town exit the UCL League Cup following a first-half onslaught from step six outfit Coalville Town in the semi-finals.
The Leicestershire based side showed no mercy on a night where Town were very much off the pace, as Ronnie Morley and Jacob Carter both bagged a brace, with Ryan Green handing a final blow just before half-time.
Kyle Jardine did find himself on the score sheet, and missed a golden chance to grab an equaliser at two-one, but it just wouldn’t be Boro’s night which would go from bad to worse, when Charlie Jones was sent off in injury time for a late challenge.
Kick-Off:
The game began with only one team in it, with the visitors' high intensity attacking football causing early concerns for the Town backline.
It wouldn’t be long before they broke the deadlock, as Ronnie Morley pounced on a sloppy backpass, poking past Brandon Bache in the 8th minute.
Only six minutes later, Town would pay the price again thanks to inform Morley, who picked the ball up on the edge of the box, firing an absolute rocket into the bottom right corner.
This was a real wake-up call for the home side, with Stuart Hendrie forcing Jake Williams to palm away from distance, just before Kyle Jardine pulled a goal back, turning his defender and firing into the far corner 22 minutes in.
Boro would almost level the scoring straight after, as Michael McGrath headed across goal but his header hit the post. In the 28th minute, a fantastic save from the Raven’s keeper Jake Williams stopped Jardine from scoring a second and levelling the score.
In the 39th minute, the Raven’s would kill this momentum turning defence into attack, picking out Jacob Carter in the box, who made no mistake slotting home.
From then Nuneaton would capitulate in the 42nd minute, Jacob Carter grabbed his brace coolly dispatching after an easy one-two.
Ryan Green hammered a final blow in first half injury time, cutting through the Boro backline like a knife through butter to strike into the net.
Half-Time: Nuneaton Town 1-5 Coalville Town
The second half lacked excitement with Coalville very happy to sit back and see out the game.
Despite having the majority of possession, the Town struggled to break down the visitors, who were well organised and continued to threaten on the counter-attack.
Nuneaton did have a big chance to grab a constellation, when Eesa Sawyers used his pace and skill to dribble into the box, but his powerful attempt was matched by a superb save from Coalville’s number one.
In added time, things would go from bad to worse, when Charlie Jones was sent off for a late challenge, further piling on to the home side's misery.
A tough one to take, but one we definitely have to put behind us as the team pushes towards back to back league titles.
